The Tianjin Municipal People's Government signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Unitree Robotics yesterday to carry out in-depth collaboration in the joint innovative application of embodied intelligence. In recent years, Tianjin has been accelerating the development of related industries. In particular, the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) boasts solid manufacturing foundations, a complete industrial chain for robotics, and advantages as a high-level open park, all providing strong support for the growth of the embodied intelligence industry. With the signing of the agreement, TEDA will further speed up the development of a Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Embodied Intelligence Industrial Innovation Hub, injecting impetus and vitality into the high-quality development of Tianjin's embodied intelligence industry.
Chen Li, co-founder of Unitree Robotics, stated that the Company chose to cooperate with Tianjin owing to its strengths in talent pool, industrial layout, port resources, and abundant application scenarios for intelligent robots. "Leveraging Tianjin's industrial and policy strengths, we will soon launch our products and businesses in Tianjin, focusing on intelligent robot applications in ports, petrochemicals, manufacturing, and other sectors," Chen Li remarked. "At the World Intelligence Expo 2026, we will showcase our full product lineup as well as industry-specific application solutions for petrochemical, coal power, steel, emergency response, and fire protection sectors. In the future, we aim to deepen R&D cooperation with universities and enterprises in Tianjin."
As a cutting-edge track integrating artificial intelligence with the real economy, embodied intelligence stands as a strategic high ground in the new round of industrial competition. TEDA has been advancing the high-standard development of the embodied intelligence industry in recent years, fostering the rapid growth of leading enterprises such as Hanhai Lanfan Marine Technology, Deepinfar, Atomrobot, and EFY Technology. To date, TEDA is home to nearly 30 robotics-related enterprises with an industrial scale of nearly RMB 13 billion. It also hosts core component manufacturers such as SEW, Zhongke IriStar, and Asia Pacific Intelligent Equipment (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., forming an initial complete supply chain system.
At the end of last year, TEDA released an action plan for the development of the embodied intelligence industry. It plans to incubate and introduce over 10 high-growth embodied intelligence projects and expand the industrial scale to over RMB 18 billion by 2028. Grounded in the development of new quality productive forces, TEDA has identified embodied intelligence as a core breakthrough for industrial upgrading over the next five years. "Centering on the main strategy of building platforms, gathering ecosystems, and strengthening applications, we will synchronize the development of innovation, industrial, and application chains, striving to build a Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei embodied intelligence industrial cluster and a pioneering zone for the industry in Tianjin," an official of TEDA noted.
Moving forward, relying on its solid industrial foundation and the construction of the embodied intelligence industrial park, TEDA will upgrade its industrial platforms and establish the TEDA Embodied Intelligence Innovation Center based on local application scenarios in automotive, electronic information, and petrochemical industries. It will also ramp up investment promotion to elevate the industrial ecosystem. Targeting the strategic layout of central state-owned enterprises and key local enterprises, TEDA will drive industrial application and project implementation across five major scenarios: industrial manufacturing, energy and special inspection, port and logistics, medical rehabilitation, as well as marine and underwater sectors, fueling the comprehensive upgrading of the local embodied intelligence industry.
